My Bio

I was born in Baylor Hospital in Dallas on October 31, 1958. I lived in the same house from age six until I left to go to college. I graduated from Skyline High School (Dallas) in May 1977. I ran track and cross country in high school and at the Universities of Texas at Austin and Arlington.

I worked in commercial construction every summer while I was in high school and college. I worked on building banks, grocery stores, schools, a warehouse, and a fifty-story building in downtown Dallas.

In my adult life, I have worked thirty-two years as a teacher. I worked eight years as an independent claims adjuster for major insurance companies in ten states, and I was a contractor for five years.

My hobbies include fishing, water and snow skiing, running in road and cross country races, riding my bicycle, and traveling to and exploring new places.  My family has a second home at Lake Tawakoni.  It's the one with a green roof over the dock which is just east of the state park.  Stop by and say "Hi" if you're ever out there and see me.  Hopefully I'll be able to give you some valuable information about where to catch bait and/or fish!

I went to work for the Canton ISD in 2004 and have taught a variety of subjects. I am certified to teach every subject in fourth through eighth grade, as well as English, English as a second language, history, and geography at the high school level.

I have been married to my wife, Maurita, for thirty-two years. I have two daughters: Ashley and Katie, as well as three grandchildren: Georgia, Hattie, and Elliot.

Ashley and her husband Jason are both attorneys, and they and the grand-kids live in Westlake.  Katie is an RN who works in the emergency room of a major hospital in Fort Worth, where she lives.
